Favourite Song?

So fans of Billy Joel out there, what is your favourite song by the one and only Piano Man? Is it the flamboyant Uptown Girl? The controversial Captain Jack? Or his signature classic Piano Man itself?

Have your say! My favourtie is Say Goodbye to Hollywood.

Captain Jack: What is the controversy?

Captain Jack is one of Billy Joel's earliest hits and brought him into the music industry's spotlight when he played it live for a radio in Philadelphia in 1972. This brought Joel to the attention of Columbia Records where he would later sign a contract the following year and release his career-making album, Piano Man, to which Captain Jack would appear on.

This early hit song of Joel's, however, received criticism for it allegedly glorifying drugs and their users. This is, without a doubt, ridiculous as it is even displayed in the song, as the lyrics depict a typical day of a drug user, how depressing and miserable the life of a drug user is and this is even confirmed by Billy Joel himself.

Personally, I believe that Captain Jack is one of Joel's best songs, written in his early pre-prime in Rhode Island, and conveys such passion that Billy Joel greatly conveys to the audience through the lyrics and rhythm he employs. What do you think of this song? Do you hate it or love it? Please comment.

An Intro to the Piano Man

G'Day everybody,

I heard Piano Man, the 36-year old career-making single of one of the best musical legends of our time, just five months ago on the radio late one Friday night. Since then, Billy Joel, the Piano Man, has become my favouriste music artist. I have now collected all of Billy Joel's greatest hits, a collection of his best music videos and live performances and am going to see the Piano Man live later this month.

I have created this blog to share with you one of the best and greatest music artists of our time and to create a place to share your opinions and views on his songs with Number #1 hits spanning 21 years, from Piano Man in 1972 to The River of Dreams in 1993. So, anyone, from the person who has just heard one of his songs on the radio to his most devoted fan, come and post about the one and only Piano Man.
